Magic, the Gamling

Tournament Format:

  • Type: Modern, with 60-card minimum decks and an optional 15-card sideboard.

  • Entry: Each player enters with either one or two decks.

  • Elimination: Players begin the tournament with the number of lives based on the number of decks they are entering with. Two lives/decks max per player. Players do not earn more lives when they win more decks.

Match Rules:

  • Pairings: Initial matches are determined by drawing names from a bucket. Subsequent rounds follow the same method.

  • Deck Wagering: The losing player in each match forfeits their deck and sideboard to the winner.

  • Deck Swapping: Winners may choose to continue using the deck they won from their opponent in future matches. If a player loses with a swapped deck, they lose that deck.

  • Optional Withdrawal: Players may choose to withdraw after their first match. Their remaining decks are not forfeited if they withdraw.

  • Tokens, dice, and sleeves: Players keep their tokens and dice regardless of match outcomes.

Match Timing:

  • The second and subsequent rounds will commence only after all first/prior round matches have concluded. This ensures fairness in drawing matchups for the next round and gives all participants an equal opportunity to prepare. All players are encouraged to stay nearby and ready to begin the next round once announced.

This event is meant to be an event to have fun and challenge our skill at playing Magic, the Gathering. I encourage those who do not feel comfortable losing their cards to not participate.
